The Indiana Economic Development Corporation is offering a Governor's Summer Internship Program designed for college students to gain hands-on experience in their field of study. The Traffic Intern will assist the Indiana Department of Transportation with various projects while learning valuable skills and contributing to agency assignments.

Responsibilities

Convert field data such as signs, official actions, or speeds to spatial databases
Collect field data as needed and work with field investigations teams to determine what data is pertinent to be stored online
Use existing GIS layers to find potential safety and mobility improvements
Work with other divisions such as district pavement engineering to find where potential safety/mobility projects may be implemented into other roadway projects

Required

Working towards a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related field
Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
Analytical skills
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to operate computer tools
Good research and writing skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
