Governor's Summer Intern - INDOT - Technical Services - LaPorte

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offers a rewarding opportunity through the Governor's Summer Internship Program, which provides college students with hands-on experience in their field of study. This role serves as an Engineering Intern for the Technical Services Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation, where the intern will assist with various projects and gain valuable learning experiences.

Responsibilities

Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study as assigned
Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives
Provide GIS mapping support (field and office)
Assist with collecting and maintaining geospatial data for the LaPorte District pedestrian and other assets in a team setting: including curb ramps, crossing signals, pedestrian push buttons, etc
INDOT will provide all specialized training to perform job functions
Approximately 80/20 Split Field/Office Work

Required

Working toward a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, GIS or Engineering related field
Academic work in related field
Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
Analytical skills
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to operate computer tools
Good research and writing skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
