Responsibilities
Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG systems
Ensure accuracy in coding to facilitate precise medical billing and reimbursement processes
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies promptly
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, healthcare regulations, and payer requirements to ensure compliance
Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems efficiently for data entry, coding, and record management
Support the training of new staff on coding protocols, medical terminology, and documentation standards
Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies
Qualification
Required
Proven experience in medical coding with proficiency in DRG, CPT coding, and ICD coding (ICD-9 and ICD-10)
Strong knowledge of medical billing processes, medical records management, and healthcare reimbursement procedures
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for efficient data entry and record keeping. ECW a plus
Excellent understanding of medical terminology, clinical documentation practices, and healthcare regulations
Prior work experience within a medical office environment is highly desirable
Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical skills for accurate code assignment
Ability to adapt quickly to changing guidelines and maintain compliance standards at all times
Preferred
Experience with medical coding software
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
