Mid-Level Geologist
Schnabel Engineering is an employee-owned, professional engineering and consulting firm specializing in geotechnical, geostructural, tunnel, and dam engineering. They are seeking a Mid-Level Geologist to join their Wilmington, NC office, where the successful candidate will coordinate field data collection, lead safety training, and perform environmental monitoring and assessments.

Responsibilities
Coordinate and collect field data working within a project team environment
Lead in Health and Safety Plan preparation, daily safety meetings, and OSHA, HAZWOPER, and site-specific safety training
Perform surface water, groundwater, and drinking water monitoring and soil sampling in accordance with field training and procedures
Water quality testing and measurement
Instrument calibration and record-keeping
Use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water testing equipment such as peristaltic pumps, bladder pumps, submersible pumps, water quality meters, handheld GPSs, and PIDs
Collection and handling of laboratory samples
Manage subcontractors including laboratories, drillers, remediation specialists, waste disposal, supply vendors
Observation and oversight of drilling including soil/rock coring and installation of monitoring wells, installation and maintenance of remedial systems and injections
Perform detailed geologic logging of sediments and rock during subsurface investigations
Perform detailed site assessments and investigations for environmental sites
Summarize and interpret environmental data on maps and cross sections
Prepare, review, and validate analytical laboratory data
Interpret field and analytical data for modeling trends
Technical writing and preparation of technical regulatory reports
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in either: Geology or Environmental Engineering
5+ years of professional experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Positive attitude
Ability to multi-task
Knowledge of regulatory programs (CERCLA, RCRA, NC 2L GWQS)
Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
Strong organizational and time management skills
Willingness and ability to perform outdoor field work and travel
Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to navigate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside
Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
Ability to pass a pre-employment screening
Preferred
Prior professional work in a related field (i.e. water sampling, drilling, field documentation, laboratory analysis, remediation, etc.)
Experience using Excel, EQuIS, ArcGIS, giNT
