Responsibilities
Define Our Pedagogical Vision : Establish Breakout's point of view on pedagogy and small group discussions. Develop and articulate a comprehensive instructional design philosophy that leverages AI to enhance human intelligence and critical thinking at scale
Drive Strategic Innovation : Create and implement the vision and strategy for all instructional design initiatives. Partner with the executive team to ensure our educational approach aligns with business objectives and market opportunities
Build AI-Powered ID Tools : Work at the intersection of education and technology to conceptualize and develop AI tools that empower our instructional design team. Transform how educational content is created, personalized, and delivered through innovative applications of machine learning
Product Development : Collaborate closely with the Head of Product to build and refine our learning platform and directly shape user experience and platform capabilities. Develop, test, and ensure our technology truly serves our pedagogical goals
Design Cross-Functional Systems : Architect big-picture workflows that span departments, ensuring seamless integration between content creation, technology development, and business operations. Build scalable processes that maintain quality while enabling rapid growth
Drive Strategic Partnerships : Cultivate relationships with key decision makers and academic leaders to advance Breakout's mission. Partner closely with our revenue team to showcase our pedagogical approach and platform capabilities, helping to secure enterprise partnerships that transform how institutions deliver education at scale
Guide & Develop a Team : Provide strategic guidance, set quality standards, and ensure our content embodies our pedagogical principles for the instructional design team to execute on
Qualification
Required
8+ years of experience in instructional design, learning sciences, or educational technology, with demonstrated impact at the strategic level
5+ years in a leadership role leading, mentoring, and developing an effective team
Proven track record of developing pedagogical frameworks and learning strategies that have been successfully implemented at scale
Experience working at the intersection of education and technology, with the ability to envision and guide the development of AI-powered learning tools
Deep understanding of learning theories, instructional design principles, and their application in digital environments
Experience with product development, user testing, and iterative design processes
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate complex educational concepts to diverse stakeholders
Systems thinking capabilities with experience designing cross-functional workflows
Preferred
Advanced degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design, or related field
Experience with AI/ML applications in education
Experience in high-growth startup environments
Background in discussion-based or collaborative learning methodologies
