Responsibilities

Play a key role in setting strategic direction for the Finance group to meet current and future reporting needs, including providing insights to facilitate business decisions that maximize Nutrien’s results
Be a key driver to ensure Nutrien’s compliance with the regulatory reporting requirements (financial statements and MD&A) with a forward thinking and collaborative approach
Partner with various groups both Finance and non-Finance teams to ensure that financial results are communicated consistently and convey a clear and concise message to the users of these reports
Lead the external reporting team and oversee the preparation and review of best-in-class quarterly and annual financial statements, and MD&A, ensuring the needs of key stakeholders are met and considering the impact of any emerging issues from financial reporting and market/industry perspectives
Provide thought leadership to the Finance and Reporting teams to help drive strategic business decisions and continuous improvements
Put forward analysis and technical accounting advice for complex and non-routine material financial transactions addressing both operational and financial impacts to Nutrien
Understand and apply how Nutrien’ s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in related day-to-day activities and decisions
Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviour; communicating vision, values, business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team
Communicate and deliver key messages to executive/senior leadership teams, Audit Committee and other business leaders via presentations and analysis provided
Manage preparation, review and timely submission of other public filings (such as AIF, Proxy, prospectus) and other reporting requirements (pension financials, legal entity financials)
Provide recommendations to Finance group regarding best practices and enhancements to the financial reporting process and continuously look for opportunities to automate and/or integrate efficiencies in the process
Be a respected collaborator with external stakeholders including auditors, consultants and legal counsel
Spearhead projects (integration of data used for reporting purposes, purchase price accounting, new accounting standards or regulations) involving financial reporting and disclosures within the organization
Provide financial support for key initiatives and special projects when identified
Expert/go-to-person for financial and regulatory reporting requirements and compliance

Required

Accounting Designation (CPA/CA)
15+ years of financial reporting experience, preferably in a large diversified public company and/or a large public accounting firm
World-class understanding of global public company accounting and regulatory reporting requirements and their application in the current reporting environment
Expert knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and securities regulations in both Canada and the US
Broad understanding of the crop nutrients production and retail sectors and the related business issues
Experience with managing, coaching and mentoring a team
Ability to manage priorities and projects simultaneously and identify critical areas and issues during the process
Ability to adapt to a fast paced and changing environment
Ability to influence a diverse group of people and implement change
A drive for achievement and excellence
Self-starter with a high energy level and result-oriented
Excellent oral & written communication to convey technical and complex matters to diverse groups of people
Very high attention to detail
Sound, professional judgement
Good understanding of US GAAP

Preferred

Knowledge of systems in use by the External Reporting group such as BPC and SAP DM or a similar tool is an asset
