Building Automation Specialist
Barrington 220 School District is responsible for overseeing the energy and sustainability initiatives within the district. The Building Automation Specialist will manage and program the Building Automation System (BAS) to ensure efficient building performance while leading sustainability and energy conservation strategies.

Responsibilities
Program, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) to manage HVAC, lighting, and other building systems
Coordinate with system providers to optimize control logic, schedules, and sequence of operations
Respond to comfort calls using BAS and conduct field visits as needed
Maintain accurate documentation of control system architecture and programming updates
Submit and track work orders related to energy management and Building Automation Systems (BAS)
Support the integration of new mechanical and energy systems into the Building Automation System (BAS) infrastructure
Develop and lead district-wide sustainability and energy conservation strategies, incorporating best practices and guidelines from ASHRAE, EPA, USDE, and other authorities
Conduct regular building energy assessments (including day, night, and weekend periods) to identify opportunities for conservation
Monitor energy use across facilities, identify trends, and implement data-driven improvements to optimize energy efficiency
Prepare and maintain baseline energy models; calculate and report energy savings
Support communication of energy conservation efforts and encourage behavioral changes among staff and students
Recommend alternative energy sources and oversee curtailment events to ensure optimal energy utilization
Track utility usage and ensure billing aligns with contracts and energy budgets
Qualification
Required
Proficient in programming and managing BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls)
Strong knowledge of sustainability standards and energy regulations
Skilled in data analysis, energy modeling, and technical documentation
Excellent communication, project coordination, and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between district buildings
Knowledge of energy guidelines, standards, and sustainability efforts (e.g., ASHRAE, EPA, USDE)
Experience developing project plans and participating in project teams
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff at all levels
Effective communication, both oral and written
Proficient computer skills, including creating spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and reports
Preferred
College degree preferred
Experience with school facilities preferred
