Flow Cytometry Research Specialist I

Responsibilities
Flow Cytometry, Cell Sorting / Cell Sorter Operation, Multicolor Panel Design, Assay Development / Method Development, Data Acquisition & Analysis, Instrument Troubleshooting, Training & Technical Support
With minimal supervision, setup and maintain flow core instrumentation. Operate instruments for investigators as required following SOPs and best practices. Operate cell sorters to ensure high-quality reproducible sorting outcomes
Works independently and in collaboration with the Lab Director to develop, evaluate, and standardize test methodologies that support a diverse portfolio of collaborative and contract research projects. Contributes to innovative method-development efforts whose outcomes may be selected for presentation at regional and national scientific meetings
Provides laboratory support for investigators, including sample preparation and staining, data acquisition, and preliminary data analysis using established protocols and quality standards
Provides expert guidance and troubleshooting for investigators on experimental design, assay optimization, and protocol development to ensure high-quality, reproducible outcomes
Trains junior laboratory staff in the execution of established procedures. Supports junior staff in developing their own projects and professional growth, ensuring high performance, consistency, and adherence to best practices
Teaches laboratory techniques, instrumentation procedures, and best practices to FCR staff, graduate students, research faculty, and professional laboratory personnel. Offers technical counseling, assists with specialized research needs, and helps investigators resolve complex methodological challenges

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 1 year of hands-on flow cytometry experience in a research, clinical, or core facility environment
Strong working knowledge of flow cytometry theory, fluorochromes, compensation, panel design, and quality control
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot technical and experimental issues
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to teach and mentor diverse trainees
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency with flow cytometry software (e.g., FACSDiva, FlowJo, SpectroFlo, FCS Express)
Ability to follow and develop SOPs, maintain accurate records, and uphold laboratory best practices
SCYM in cytometry
Preferred
Masters degree
3 years experience of flow cytometry experience
