SEASONAL Student Trainee (Biological Science Technician--Fisheries)
The Pacific West Region is recruiting summer seasonals at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for the SEASONAL Student Trainee (Biological Science Technician--Fisheries) role. This temporary appointment focuses on assisting with various biological science tasks related to fisheries and aquatic ecology.

Responsibilities
Removes nonnative fish from alpine lakes
Completes visual encounter surveys for amphibians and reptiles
Sets, cleans and repairs gill nets
Electro-fishes in streams
Conducts fish, amphibian, and reptile surveys
Collects field data
Kills nonnative fish; handles dead fish
Follows detailed protocols
Records environmental parameters; using topographic maps, compass, and/or global positioning systems (GPS) for navigation
Provides an overview of the project to park visitors
And occasionally assists with research projects

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Pathways participant agreement is required
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work
The entire period served under the Intern Program counts as a trial period
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 13 nights per month
You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes
You will be required to work remote backcountry and high elevations
Travel, transportation & relocation expenses will not be paid
Relocation expenses will be the employee's responsibility
Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: (1) Successful completion of six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience. General experience is any type of work that demonstrates your ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provides a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Biological Science Technician. Examples of specialized experience include but are not limited to 1) assists others conducting aquatic ecology, wildlife or fisheries work; 2) assists with scientific surveys; and 3) records and enters data into databases. You must include hours per week worked in your resume. (2) Successful completion of 2 years (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) of study above high school or an Associate's degree. One full academic year of undergraduate; graduate; vocational; trades; technical or high school education is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university or school to represent 1 year of full-time study. The high school curriculum must be approved by a State or local governing body. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Transcripts must be submitted. (3) Successful completion of a combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Specialized experience and education should be computed as a percentage of the overall requirements and must equal 100 percent when combined. Transcripts must be submitted and hours per week worked must be included in your resume
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
