Structural Plans Engineer - Planning & Development
The City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department is seeking a Structural Plans Engineer to review and examine complex building construction plans for compliance with adopted codes and ordinances. The role involves providing advice and guidance to architects, engineers, and contractors regarding the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code and ensuring safe construction practices.

Provide advice and guidance to architects, engineers, and contractors related to the interpretation of the Phoenix Building Construction Code
Resolve complicated code issues
Develop and maintain consistency among plan review and inspection staff
Qualification
Required
Three years of experience in the building construction industry relating to structural engineering for buildings or similar structures
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field
By the end of probation, must meet the following two requirements: Registered Professional Engineer / Structural or Civil (PE) in the State of Arizona and ICC Building Plans Examiner (B3)
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
Preferred
ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification
Professional registration in the State of Arizona as a Structural or Civil Professional Engineer (PE)
Three years of experience performing structural design or review of building plans and calculations
Experience using and applying IBC and structural material codes
Experience designing standard building construction materials
Experience preparing and interpreting building construction plans
Experience with structural system rational analysis and building member design
Experience using and interpreting engineering design and calculation software
Experience with Electronic Plan Review Software
Experience with structural deferred submittals
Experience with field inspections
