Legal Services Assistant
Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Legal Services Assistant to manage legal paperwork in a high-volume office. The role includes answering calls, assisting the public, typing legal documents, and maintaining criminal case files.

Responsibilities
Organizing and processing all legal paperwork in a high-volume office mandated by the Code of Virginia and the courts/judges of Chesterfield
Answering incoming calls
Assisting the public
Typing legal correspondences, letters, memos, court orders, etc
Data entry
Creating criminal case files
Filing of criminal records
Copying
Running background checks on VCIN (will be trained and certified by Virginia State Police)
Providing back up for all legal services assistants as needed
Perform other work as required
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Two years increasingly responsible secretarial experience including experience as a legal secretary
Good knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and grammar
Knowledge of office procedures, methods and practices
Knowledge of principles and practices of effective customer service
Verbal and written fluency in both English and Spanish (encouraged to apply)
Working skill in the operation of word processing equipment and other automated office systems
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Good oral/written communications
Pre-employment drug testing
FBI criminal background check
Education/degree verification
Ability to pass a more stringent criminal background check governed by the US Department of Justice's CJIS Security Policy
