Business Development Manager, Pharma, North America
Irving Knight Group is partnering with a leading specialty chemical manufacturer to find a National Business Development Manager for their Pharmaceutical Excipient portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing market presence, building relationships with key customers, and driving sales growth across the United States.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Business Development, develop and implement strategies to grow market presence from almost zero across the US, working with some of the biggest suppliers in the global market
Leverage new professional relationships with target customers to become the supplier of choice
Provide technical support for customer collaborations and internal resources, such as sales training, customer training, and other educational initiatives
Develop forecast for the business and update on market conditions
Develop new sales opportunities at customers by presenting offerings/products to drive sales and profit, meeting company targets (exceeding the market)
Influence customers and diffuse potential problems
Anticipate the customer’s needs and identify appropriate alternatives
Effectively move between scientific discussions and commercial/sales conversations
Manage opportunities, accounts, contacts, leads, and write visit reports covering details of visits to customers utilizing company systems such as Salesforce.com
Work closely with internal resources to ensure timely proposal generation, smooth transactions and customer satisfaction
Lead Principal/Customer presentations both in-person and virtually
Build strategic partnerships with existing and future partners and act as a voice of the customer internally within various departments
Team-oriented, problem-solving mindset focused on delivering quality solutions to promote business success
Develop materials such as documents, presentations, and other communication tools for both internal (e.g., evaluation and leadership presentation activities) and external facing activities (e.g., pitch decks) as needed
Conduct business analysis, actively prospect for new business within geography, align with sales and marketing strategies, and develop account plans
Utilize all company approved marketing tools and resources, including digital presentations, use selling skills framework to advance in the selling cycle
Develop a strong product knowledge of offerings and effectively educate and engage customers in dialogue about ingredient use and benefits
Work with Manager and key stakeholders to develop a local business plan that ensures achievement of all business objectives
Provide timely and accurate administrative management of work hours, sales call data, customer objectives, communication responses, sample requests and expense reporting
Support marketing collateral generation activities including but not limited to eblasts, seminars, and literature, both independently and with business partners
Consistently monitor territory metrics and take ownership of changes needed to succeed while maintaining an accurate and up-to-date customer database in Salesforce.com
Work with internal partners to coordinate the sales process
Monitor client, market and competitor activity and provide feedback to the Company’s Sales Management team
Work with marketing and sales to execute campaigns
Meet or exceed key performance indicators
Qualification
Required
BSc in a life science field (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Product Development, Nutrition etc) is absolutely essential. An MSc would be beneficial
A minimum of seven years' experience in a similar Business Development role, selling a Excipients nationally
Self-motivated, high energy, and engaging level of enthusiasm and positive outlook
An existing network of customers in the Pharma industry
Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills, and ability to adapt communication style to the audience as needed
Software knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
Must have a valid driver's license and evidence of insurability
