Controls Engineer – Large-Scale Automation Projects

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support large-scale automation and control system projects, responsible for end-to-end electrical and controls engineering, from initial concept and system design through installation, commissioning, and startup.

Responsibilities

Lead electrical and control system design from concept through implementation, including:
Hardware, software, and network architecture
Electrical panel design and power calculations
Risk assessment and safety system design
Design control systems using drafting software (AutoCAD preferred)
Interface with engineers, designers, drafters, vendors, and facility teams to ensure system integration and optimal layout
Perform system-level analyses including:
Short circuit protection
Load flow and power consumption
Ground fault monitoring
Noise reduction and harmonics
Protective relay and safety system design (SIL/PL knowledge preferred)
Design safety-critical systems with redundant mitigations to improve reliability and compliance
Ensure designs meet applicable local, government, and client codes and standards
Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including:
Descriptions of operation
Control system and software design documents
Panel drawings, schematics, termination drawings, and network layouts
System implementation, acceptance testing, and maintenance plans
Design, develop, and implement PLC/DCS control logic in accordance with client standards
Program and troubleshoot control systems using:
Ladder Logic (required)
Structured Text (required)
C++ and Visual Basic (preferred)
Perform processor loading, scan time, I/O response, and network delay analysis
Develop efficient, maintainable, and well-documented control code to support long-term client use
Troubleshoot complex system issues, identify root causes, and implement smart diagnostics to minimize cascading faults
Support system startup, commissioning, and integrated system debugging
Act as a technical lead, mentoring junior engineers, technicians, and contractors
Support off-shift work as needed during installation and commissioning phases

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
5+ years of hands-on experience covering the majority of responsibilities listed

Strong hands-on experience designing control systems from a blank sheet of paper
Comfortable working in complex, multi-disciplinary environments
Act as a technical lead on projects across entertainment, manufacturing, and industrial domains

Manufacturing and industrial automation environments
Experience with ASTM standards
Safety engineering and instrumentation
Industrial components and logic programming
AutoCAD
Ethernet-based distributed remote I/O systems
Experience with major industrial platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent
