Arts Barn Community Facility Manager

The City of Gaithersburg is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic candidate for the full-time position of Community Facility Manager of the Gaithersburg Arts Barn. This role involves planning, directing, managing, and coordinating the administrative and operational functions of the facility, as well as overseeing arts and humanities initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, supervise, and manage daily administrative and operational functions related to the Arts Barn facility and services, including all activities, programs, events, rentals, and resources/collections
Directly hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the full-time Community Facility Coordinator and the Arts Education, Theater, Community and Family Programs, Galleries, and Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program Coordinators
Oversee the Community Facility Coordinator’s supervision and scheduling of front desk and box-office staff
Create the vision for the Arts Barn and ensure programs and performances align with that vision, creating connected and comprehensive seasons
Monitor and evaluate operational efficiency and effectiveness of the Arts Barn including customer focus and service delivery methods and procedures; set goals and identify opportunities for improvement
Analyze competition, market trends, community needs, and customer feedback to continually assess the Arts Barn's productivity against the budget, plan, and market
Develop, recommend, and implement creative marketing strategies designed to maintain and enhance visitation and then implement and facilitate the plan with Arts Barn staff
Explore and initiate partnership and sponsorship opportunities
Develop and manage the Arts Barn budget, including tracking revenue and expenses
Approve and track all facility contracts (performers, service contractors, instructor agreements, etc.)
Oversee the operations and maintenance of the facility and equipment
Serve as staff liaison for the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee and as a staff representative for the Gaithersburg Parks, Arts and Recreation Corporation’s (GPARC’s) Alliance for Arts Committee
Manage the Artists in Residence Program
Apply for and manage Arts Barn specific grants; supply necessary data and narratives for Division-wide grants
Act as lead programmer for large facility-wide events that include the season open house, facility anniversary events, fundraising receptions, etc
Provide outstanding service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations

Required

Relevant Bachelor's degree; preferably in arts administration, arts management, fine arts, visual arts, performing arts, or related field
At least 5 years of experience in organized public or private sector programming involving performing arts, public art, visual arts, and/or cultural programming; budgetary preparation, administration, and analysis experience preferred
At least two years of recent supervisory experience
Strong customer service focus
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and written, verbal, and digital communication skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively foster relationships and collaborate with multiple key partners and internal and external stakeholders
An understanding of the needs of an ethnically and economically diverse community
Experience in strategic planning as well as budget preparation and administration
Solid technology skills (Microsoft 365, specialized software for ticketing, registrations and scheduling, social media)
A valid driver's license
CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire)
Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties
