VSC Fire & Security is a premier provider of fire protection and life-safety solutions across the Southeast. They are seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee the monthly close process, improve balance sheet reconciliations, and support revenue recognition across service and construction work.

Responsibilities

Own significant portions of the monthly close process, including preparation, review, and variance analysis

Prepare, review, and continuously improve balance sheet reconciliations during the month end close

Identify and resolve recurring close issues, timing problems, and process gaps

Review journal entries and supporting documentation and initiate corrections or improvements as needed

Support revenue recognition across service and construction work, including percentage-of-completion and job-level margin analysis

Assist with WIP construction schedules, backlog reporting, and gross margin analysis by job, division, and service line

Responsible for inventory accounting and controls, including valuation, reconciliations, fabrication and physical counts

Provide day-to-day support and oversight for accounting staff

Review work product for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness

Help prioritize workloads during month-end close, audits, and peak periods

Step in as needed to unblock progress, solve problems, and/or handle escalations

Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members

Support ERP system enhancements and upgrades, including automation of complex accounting processes

Support substantive and 404 audits, including PBC preparation and audit issue resolution

Assist with maintaining strong internal controls and consistent accounting policies

Help ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies across entities and locations

Initial review of most SOX key controls

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

Active CPA license

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience including public accounting, preferably in audit

Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Oracle)

Strong Excel skills, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, macros, and data analysis tools

Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley

Experience with multi-entity, multi-state operations and intercompany accounting

Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred

Experience with construction and inventory accounting is preferred
