The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property. They are seeking a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II to manage the operation of a correctional housing unit, supervise staff, and ensure the effective delivery of programs and services to offenders.

Responsibilities

Provides direct support and assumes responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit
Managing the total operation of an institutional housing unit within a correctional facility which may include controlled or restrictive housing
Supervise staff, determines & evaluates program designs necessary to meet the needs of the offender population, and coordinate the programs and services with program and custody staff
Responsible for the programmatic and operational orientation of offenders which includes: education, mental health, administrative and disciplinary segregation, and work assignments
Reviews work of staff through incident and use of force reports, grievance investigations, classification actions, daily activity reports, and the case management system
Establishes daily and weekly work schedules of staff to ensure coverage
May chair the Facility Classification Committee and have the final approving authority on unit classification and disciplinary committees
Supervise a Correctional Housing Unit Manager I and reports to an Associate Warden
Work is performed in accordance with departmental regulations and established procedures

Required

Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
Knowledge of facility operations
Knowledge of Prisons' policy and procedures
Documented report writing skills
Documented supportive counseling skills
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission

Preferred

No less than 5 years of corrections work experience and 2 years at a supervisory level
