Responsibilities

Provide engineering services for cost estimating, design, work instructions, and coordination of construction and maintenance projects on MidAmerican Energy Company's electric delivery system

Prepares routine construction work requests, including work instruction preparation, construction site drawings, preparation of material lists, and engineering calculations

Performs a variety of routine field work including, but not limited to locating and sizing services, load determination, utility easement acquisition, staking, and minor survey work

Actively engages with customer requests and responds to service needs as appropriate. Works collaboratively with residential and commercial construction developers

Provide routine project management for all phases of a project including scheduling, design, estimates, drawings, cost tracking, and project cost projections

Verifies and documents construction site readiness, ensuring MEC requirements are met for backfill, grading, and conduit installation requirements

Provides customers with scheduling notifications as appropriate (may include but not limited to email, text alerts, and/or phone calls). Also provides customers with scheduling change notifications via the same mediums

Provide support for work requests, resolves issues, and ensures crews understand work scope, detail, and structure

Ensures that customer inquiries and engineering detail adhere to standard operating procedures involving tariff application, extension rules and agreements, service rules, code requirements, service entrance, and metering requirements

Responsible for emergency response activities, outage response supervisory activities, outage dispatch, downed wire investigation and field damage assessment

May require travel and overnight stay as workload dictates

Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques

Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric distribution system

Required

Associate's degree in a technical field such as civil, electrical, mechanical, construction, computer aided drafting, electrical trade, project management, or equivalent work experience

Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree in a technical field

Two years of related work experience in field of construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design is required for the engineering technician level

In lieu of an associate's degree and work experience a bachelor's degree will be considered

Effective verbal and written communications skills

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple task and projects concurrently

An associate's degree in a technical field such as civil, electrical, mechanical, construction, computer aided drafting, electrical trade, project management or equivalent related work experience

Three years of related work experience in field of construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design

Exceptional verbal and written communications skills

Five years of related work experience in field of construction management, civil engineering, computer aided drafting or electrical infrastructure construction and/or design is required for the senior engineering technician level
