Responsibilities

Maintain and improve production, staging, and development environments deployed in Kubernetes on AWS
Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability frameworks
Lead incident response, postmortems, and continuous improvement initiatives
Own backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices
Perform capacity planning and performance tuning
Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or equivalent)
Automate provisioning, configuration, and environment lifecycle management
Standardize repetitive tasks and eliminate operational toil
Manage secrets, configuration, and environment versioning across environments
Enforce least-privilege IAM and cloud guardrails
Support vulnerability management, patching workflows, and dependency hygiene
Contribute to compliance readiness (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, etc.)
Ensure logging, retention, and audit practices are consistently applied
Track usage and optimize cloud spend across services and environments
Implement tagging, budgets, alerts, and showback/visibility mechanisms
Recommend architecture or tooling changes to control cost without sacrificing performance
Partner with developers to improve reliability and deployability of services
Mentor engineers on cloud operations best practices
Contribute to runbooks, documentation, and onboarding materials
Advocate for operational excellence, change management, and risk reduction

Required

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university plus four to seven years related experience; or seven to nine years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Read, analyze, and interpret business, professional, technical, or governmental documents
Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Familiarity with common software patterns and architectures
Familiarity with disaster recovery strategies and testing
Familiarity with CI/CD tools, pipelines, and deployment automation (e.g. Bamboo, Github Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines)
Familiarity with Linux systems administration and troubleshooting
Familiarity with operating in regulated or audited environments (e.g. life sciences, aerospace & defense, fintech)
Familiarity with SRE concepts (SLIs/SLOs, MTTR, RTO/RPO, error budgets, etc.)
Proficiency with scripting languages: JavaScript (Node.js, React), Typescript, Python, Bash, etc
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
Proficiency with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including instance provisioning and management, networking, storage, and cost management
Proficiency with production SaaS or distributed systems environments
Proficiency with cloud infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code approaches (e.g. Terraform)
Expertise in Kubernetes, including cluster automation and maintenance, service meshes, autoscaling, and Helm charts
Expertise in observability tools and systems (e.g. Datadog, Cloudwatch, Prometheus, New Relic, etc.)
