Director of Payroll
Atlantic Group is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead and oversee all aspects of payroll operations across the organization. The role involves managing payroll compliance, ensuring accuracy, and developing a high-performing team while overseeing payroll processes for a complex, multi-state workforce.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a complex, multi-state workforce, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing
Serve as the subject matter expert for ADP Enterprise HRMS, including system configuration, integrations, reporting, and enhancements
Oversee time and attendance processes using Kronos (UKG), ensuring accurate data flow into payroll
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 5 payroll professionals, driving accountability and operational excellence
Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax filings, wage and hour laws, garnishments, and audits
Partner closely with HR, Finance, Legal, and IT on payroll-related initiatives, system upgrades, and cross-functional projects
Oversee payroll tax processes, reconciliations, and coordination with external vendors and auditors
Lead payroll audits (internal and external) and proactively address compliance risks
Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and controls to support scalability and risk mitigation
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and employee experience
Support special payroll programs, incentive plans, bonuses, equity-related payroll (if applicable), and off-cycle payments
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (required)
10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership at the director or senior manager level
In-depth, hands-on expertise with ADP Enterprise HRMS (required)
Strong working knowledge of Kronos (UKG) time and attendance systems
Extensive experience managing payroll across multiple states and working with federal and state payroll programs
Proven experience leading and developing payroll teams
Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and compliance requirements
Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation
Experience supporting payroll operations for large or rapidly scaling organizations
Background partnering with HRIS and Finance teams on system implementations or upgrades
