Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) NYHELPS
The NYS Department of Transportation is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 in the Civil/Transportation domain. This role involves managing design teams for highway and bridge projects, producing contract plans, and ensuring project quality and compliance with state standards.
Civil Engineering
Responsibilities
Managing in-house Design teams, and/or managing Consultant teams in the development of project scope, preliminary engineering, and final design
Producing biddable contract plans, specifications, and estimates
Delivering projects on-time and on-budget
Preparing and maintaining project schedules using P6 (primavera)
Developing/reviewing design reports
Obtaining permits
Supervising several engineers and technicians
Coordinating with Regional and Main Office functional groups, coordinating with the public and with other agencies
Reviewing contract plans, specifications, and estimates, and providing comment and guidance to designers to ensure project quality
Keeping up to date on State standards to maintain quality relating to the roles listed above
Learning and using necessary software to support the roles listed above (such as Estimator and AASHTOWare Project Preconstruction for Estimating and SpecTracker for Special Spec Coordination)
Keep track of project Bid Results and Price Trends relating to project estimates
Supervising several Engineers and Technicians performing different roles
Qualification
Required
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
Qualifying degrees: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees
One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law
You must have a New York State Professional Engineer's License and current registration AND be a qualified employee of New York State AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows: Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation)
Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education
If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
