Opto-Mechanical Engineer / Sr. Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to develop the optical systems on the LPBF machine
Design and build opto-mechanical systems and test/calibration equipment
Integrate state of the art high power lasers, scanners and high speed camera solutions both in a hands on and supervisory capacity
Create CAD and drawing files
Develop and preform test/calibration/characterization processes and design the necessary equipment
Train operators on various optical calibration and cleaning methods and processes
Work closely with the process team to ensure all equipment and processes align with process requirements
Define and promote a culture of laser safety

Required

Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in optics, mechanical engineering, physics or related technical field
2+ years (Opto-Mechanical Engineer) or 5+ years (Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer) of experience in opto-mechanical systems design and development
Ability to develop processes and train others to follow them
CAD experience, including GD&T and detailed drawing documentation
Strong mechanical engineering and physics fundamentals
Systems-level thinker also able to perform detailed work; has previously delivered complex opto-mechanical systems
Able to identify gaps, define roadmaps, and negotiate outcomes across teams and departments

Preferred

Experience with high power lasers (at least 0.5kW)
Experience designing optics for industrial systems such as semiconductor (i.e. etching), laser cutting, long distance laser communication, etc
Basic understanding of image and signal processing
Knowledge of motion control and kinematics
Experience with design of fluid or thermal systems
Ability to do system level and component level opto-mechanical tolerancing
Experience working around optical simulation software (Zemax or Code V)
Hands on experience with alignment/assembly of complex optical systems
