Safe Passage Project provides free legal services to immigrant youth in New York City and on Long Island. They are seeking college interns to assist staff attorneys in various tasks related to immigration law and client support.

Client communications

Interpretation at client meetings

Translation of documents between Spanish and English

Participating in virtual legal screenings

Assisting with maintenance of our electronic file database

Observing Immigration Court and Family Court appearances

Qualification

Fluent in SpanishTrauma-centered practicesIndependenceCommunication skillsTeamwork

Required

Enrolled in college or recently graduated from college

Fluent in Spanish

Open to giving and receiving feedback

Able to meet deadlines and communicate clearly with their supervisor(s)

Able to work both independently and as part of a team

An understanding of how to work with vulnerable populations using trauma-centered practices or a willingness to learn and incorporate such practices in their work
