Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the internal audit function
Own and manage the Internal Audit Work Plan, including audit scope, frequency, and sampling methodology
Plan and execute audits aligned with Office of Inspector General (OIG) and Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) work plans
Ensure audits are conducted in accordance with departmental standards and regulatory requirements
Serve as a primary liaison with executive leadership, including Vice Presidents and the CFO
Collaborate with Compliance Officers on audits included in Compliance Work Plans
Oversee audits of medical record documentation to identify undercoding and overcoding issues and support physician education on compliance
Prepare and present audit findings and reports to Executive Management, Compliance, and Finance leadership
Research, analyze, and respond to compliance inquiries, coding discrepancies, denials, and billing issues
Partner cross-functionally with physicians, billing, provider enrollment, managed care, informatics, and operational teams
Lead organizational risk assessments and monitor corrective action plans
Cultivate relationships across departments to promote ethical practices, transparency, and continuous improvement
Lead, mentor, and develop internal audit staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth
Stay current on regulatory changes through conferences, workshops, and training sessions

Required

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (required)
Minimum of 5–7 years of auditing experience, preferably within a healthcare environment
Minimum of 10 years of supervisory or leadership experience
Strong knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/10 coding
In-depth understanding of CMS guidelines and federal and state healthcare compliance regulations
Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy
Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop audit staff
Strong analytical, investigative, and interview skills
Excellent organizational, time management, and project management abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail
Strong written, understanding, and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business software
Ability to work effectively in both independent and team-based environments
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare setting
