Responsibilities
Preparing complex engineering designs and economic analyses for large public works projects, including the management of Capital Improvement Projects involving sewers, storm drains and other public facilities
Directing the examination of plans, calculations, and specifications of commercial, industrial and apartment buildings for structural adequacy, zoning, and compliance with municipal codes and ordinances
Directing the construction management, inspection, and material testing for the City’s capital improvement projects. Other additional duties include managing On-Call Consultants performing construction management work
Overseeing and managing a variety of capital, right-of-way, transportation, and green infrastructure projects and plans to provide and ensure equitable, affordable, safe, and healthy roads, bridges, streets, and bicycle/pedestrian lanes to all Oaklanders
Representing and furthering Oakland and the City’s commitment to racial equity in all transportation planning work
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field
Five years of progressively responsible work experience in civil engineering, including three years of supervisory or lead experience
Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a professional civil engineer in the State of California, or the ability to obtain a California Registration by reciprocity from another state within six months of employment
Maintain a valid California Driver's License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties

Work/Life Balance: 37.5 hour work weeks; may be able to telecommute two days per week; five days if pregnant or returning from family leave for baby bonding.

Management Leave: Up to 10 days of management leave per year
Vacation: 2 weeks per year minimum with the ability to accrue more depending on public sector years of service
Retirement: CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) with a pension formula of 2.5% @ 55 (for Classic CalPERS members) and 2% @ 62 for new CalPERS members. Classic Employees contribute 8% of pre-tax wages. The City of Oakland does not participate in Social Security
Health: The City of Oakland pays the full cost of employee and eligible dependent coverage at the Kaiser rate. Other plans include Anthem, Blue Shield, United Health Care, and other HMO and PPO plans
Dental: Delta Dental full premium for employees and eligible dependents
Vision: VSP full premium for employees and eligible dependents
Sick leave: Employees accrue 12 days per year
Deferred Compensation: 457(b) pre-tax plan and an after-tax ROTH 401(k) plan
