Engagement Programming Specialist

The University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an Engagement Programming Specialist to join their Learning and Engagement team. This role involves developing and implementing innovative engagement programming that aligns with the educational mission of the Libraries, as well as supporting various community learning initiatives.

Conceive of, develop, and implement innovative programming that meets the educational mission of the Libraries/CU Boulder and supports the whole learner; Conduct environmental scans and research investigations of engagement programming in Libraries and beyond; Create logistical steps and plans for engagement programming; Evaluate and revise programming workflows to enhance impact and efficiency; actively investigate swag and content that is socially just, sustainable, and in alignment with Libraries values and goals in collaboration with the Communication Team; develop mechanisms to supervise attendance, and collect attendee feedback and other artifacts for program assessment; provide recommendations for ways that programming could be improved in the future; schedule materials and spaces, recruit team members, collect and analyze statistics for engagement programming activities. This position will serve as a resource for fellow library professionals involved in engagement programming. The Engagement Programming Specialist will engage in ongoing professional development related to job duties and team priorities, especially those offered through the Libraries and CU Boulder
As a member of the Learning and Engagement Team, the Engagement Programming Specialist will support team-based projects and collaborations and, at times, collaborators outside of the team. Programming support may include engagement programming campaigns, organizational initiatives, or instructional support. The position will engage in and lead special projects to support the Learning and Engagement Team goals of creating learning opportunities that are hospitable, receptive, and welcoming to our communities, including supporting L&E core programs like the Buffs One Read and the Culture Crawl. This position will perform duties as assigned by the section and team leads. Participation in project work requires a willingness to collaborate, ask for clarification, and implement plans at the direction of the project lead
The Engagement Programming Specialist will teach and coach patrons through their library and research needs by staffing the Libraries’ service points. This position will be required to guide and coach the campus community, from a variety of fields, in pursuit of research goals, including students, faculty, staff and public users. This will require sound understanding of reference interview theory and active listening skills as well as expert knowledge of research tools. This entails conducting patron needs analysis, investigation of search strategies, recommendations for research process, evaluation and analysis of materials, and thorough referral or external requests as needed. Reference tasks also involve user education to share emerging scholarly practices, publication, and access trends. Effective interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and skill with technology are essential for this person to succeed in this aspect of this position. The position will also be responsible for staying ahead of location specific service point needs, policies, and environments
The Engagement Programming Specialist will design learning experiences and facilitate instruction programs and sessions as assigned. These responsibilities include developing lesson plans, learning materials, and learning experiences to facilitate students' information literacy and research strategies; investigating and employing effective pedagogical strategies. This role requires knowledge of effective instructional strategies, a dedication to relationship building with students, and self-reflection that supports a growing teacher identity
Provide policies, procedures, and maintenance of InfoMotion; design and offer quarterly training on InfoMotion; plan and implement periodic InfoMotion programming throughout the year that are both independent and complementary to established team programming

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Equivalent experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis
1 year of experience working in libraries or related setting
Knowledge of techniques and strategies to holistically supporting the needs of learners
Knowledge of and willingness to learn about academic library trends and practices that align with team priorities
Strong written and oral communication skills
Exhibits collaboration skills, including the ability to develop a congenial work environment that encourages change and innovation; ability to interact optimally and work productively, collegially, harmoniously, and in partnership with a variety of individuals and groups in a sophisticated and constantly evolving environment
Ability to advocate for an environment of equity and inclusion

Preferred

Experience in higher education
Project management experience that lead to the successful completion of team and individual project work
