Upper School English Teacher

Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) is seeking a dynamic and talented teacher to join their English Department for the Upper School, teaching grades 9th – 12th in the 2026-2027 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative nature, a student-centered approach, and a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of learners, while also being involved in community opportunities such as coaching and club sponsorship.

Responsibilities

Prepares course materials that effectively scaffold and support student learning through innovative and current pedagogical methods
Supports students through timely and frequent formative and summative feedback offering paths for growth for each student
Builds and maintains a robust and clear presence on the current learning management system
Works with the department chair to plan, evaluate, revise, and document curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction towards innovation and culturally-responsive practices
Attend faculty meetings, grade level and departmental meetings, supervisory duties, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as well as stays current with professional readings and research in order to maintain and improve professional competence
Uses effective and inclusive classroom management techniques to ensure effective community building and learning
Serves as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students
Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to support and assist students
Participates in the MICDS professional development framework and pursues outside opportunities to stay current with best practices and maintain expertise in subject matter
Communicates student progress consistently with parents and guardians
Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility
Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees
Serves as a mentor to new faculty
Fulfills roles with other projects and responsibilities that may be added at the School's discretion

Required

Bachelor's degree in subject matter required
Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums
Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must enjoy working and learning with children

Preferred

Master's degree in English or Education
Experience teaching at the high school level
Understanding and application of standards-based feedback in the English classroom
Willingness to effectively utilize technology in the curriculum
Familiarity with AI and its evolving applications in the classroom
