Instructor - Biology (9-month Tenure Track)
Chattanooga State Community College is seeking a 9-month tenure-track Biology Faculty member to instruct various biology courses. The role involves developing course materials, evaluating student progress, and supporting student success while engaging with the community and college initiatives.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Dean of Math and Sciences and the Department Head of Science, the full-time faculty member has as their chief duty the instruction of Introduction to Biology 1 and 2 & General Biology 1 and 2 courses
Biology faculty teach classes which are scheduled during the day or evening, taught in a variety of formats (online and on-ground) and at several different locations, including off campus sites and service area high schools
The faculty member is expected to facilitate the classroom instructional process, evaluate students, monitor progress, utilize the Learning Management System (LMS), including Faculty Feedback, assign mid-term and final grades, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals, work to retain students, and maintain required classroom and office hours
Serve as a member of the Science Department within the Math and Sciences Division for the Teaching Excellence strategic theme of the College’s Strategic Plan
In this role, the faculty member is responsible for the following:
Select texts, supplemental documents, supplies, and other learning resources, including Open Educational Resources (OER); develop supplemental instructional materials; use current technology in the preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction in accordance with the college’s digital accessibility policy
Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi
Remain current within field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies
Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials
Attend scheduled college, divisional, and departmental professional development and in-service activities, and participate in annual faculty evaluation process
Respect the rights of students and access to educational opportunities
Assist in recruitment, selection, orientation and evaluation of potential students
Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions
Support student activities
Assist in recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned
Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes
Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organizations and/or task forces to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making processes
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues
Strengthen relationships between the college and the community through community outreach activities
Attend required college, division, and department meetings
Support Academic Advising Center
Stay current with the relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways
Participate in regular reviews of relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways
Assist with college-wide advising as needed
Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services
Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility
Structure student experiences to ensure relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities
Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts
Supports the responsible fiscal stewardship of the funds allocated to the Science Department within the Math and Sciences Division
Embraces and promotes the College's goals related to organizational culture and community and supports the Math and Sciences Division’s efforts to utilize best practices to provide fair-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff
Maintains an office environment that is open, inviting, and professional
Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
An earned Master's degree in Biology from a regionally accredited institution or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology
Preferred
Experience teaching additional Biology courses in the department including Environmental Science, Nutrition, Human Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology
Preference for candidates with previous community college teaching experience
