Assistant Director, Generative AI and Learning
Cornell University is seeking an Assistant Director for Generative AI and Learning within the Center for Teaching Innovation. This role involves shaping and leading programs to help faculty adapt to generative AI in education, including the design of workshops and resources, while assessing the impact of AI tools on learning outcomes.

Responsibilities
Design and implement faculty development opportunities such as workshops, institutes, and learning communities
Support faculty from a range of disciplines, including through the development of department or college level faculty development programs
Develop and manage up-to-date web resources
Conduct rigorous pilot experiments in AI tools, assessing their impact on learning and work
With support from the Executive Director, contribute to the development of university-level policies and guidelines for GenAI adoption, in line with Cornell’s AI teaching and learning principles
Keep up to date on generative AI tools and their impact on learning
Contribute to the AI and teaching knowledge, skills, and professional development of the broader CTI team
Contribute to national conversations about the impact of generative AI on learning
Potential for leading a small team of 1-2 instructional designers
Qualification
Required
Master's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Direct pedagogical experience in course design, active learning, assessment, and inclusive teaching practices
Direct experience with a range of generative artificial intelligence tools, understanding how the models work and a critical appreciation for their strengths and limitations
A demonstrated ability to work with faculty with a range of attitudes and beliefs about AI and its impact on learning
A demonstrated ability to lead a small team
Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences
Proven experience connecting inclusion, belonging and wellbeing practices to business goals
Preferred
Curiosity about the impact of AI on teaching and learning and the ability to frame research questions
PhD preferred
Knowledge of evidence-based teaching methods and familiarity with the research literature on teaching and learning
College teaching experience preferred
