Controller

The Controller will direct the company's accounting practices, maintain fiscal records, and prepare financial reports while managing various accounting functions and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Plans, directs and coordinates all accounting functions, namely, financial accounting, cost accounting, accounts receivable and accounts payable
Manages and prepares the internal financial reporting for senior management and the board of directors
Preparers and files certain reporting requirements of Kikkoman, including that of the monthly cash forecast
Manages the monthly financial close and reviews, approves all journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by staff and calculates monthly broker fees for Acosta
Responsible for the correct and accurate accounting classifications of all expenditures, including capital
Reviews and approves ACH and wire transfers and approves and signs accounts payable checks and manual payroll checks
Prepares and files monthly, quarterly and annual state sales tax returns
Coordinates activities of external auditors, including the annual physical inventory and interim and year-end audit
Maintains the company chart of accounts, assigning new classifications, divisions or departments when necessary
Provides management with information vital to the decision-making process
Manages various aspects of the budget process
Prepares assigned annual insurance policy renewal applications
Co-Administrates JP Morgan Access, empowering users to initiate transfers, upload and download information and other banking functions
Initiates monthly interest payment to Kikkoman and board fees to a foreign director and prepares annual withholding tax forms 1042, 1042-S and 1042-T
Prepares and files various US Census surveys
Assesses current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
Evaluates accounting and internal control systems
Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed
Develops and monitors business performance metrics
Hires, trains and retains competent staff
Human Resource functions to include subordinate performance reviews, recommending promotions, issuing disciplinary warnings, as well as work shift assignment scheduling
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational symposia; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies, etc
Satisfactory completion of appropriate corporate training as related to the position and/or department
Assures compliance by following Food and Drug Administration's Good Manufacturing Practices (FDA cGMPs) as well as other regulatory standards as required by the department
Contributes to overall achievement by accomplishing related tasks and demonstrating characteristics that exemplify team building and support
Qualification
Required
Five years' experience in public accounting or seven plus years' experience in private sector (manufacturing preferred) with financial accounting and corporate tax responsibilities
Computer Experience: Mainframe and PC, e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
Experience with ERP systems (i.e. SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards)
Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards
Excellent administrative and communication skills
Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting
