Project Engineer (Substations/Data Centers)
Cobalt Recruitment is a nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm seeking a Project Engineer to support and lead large EPC power delivery and substation projects across the United States. The role involves serving as an Owner's Engineer and providing internal technical leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities
Lead and manage HV/EHV substation EPC projects from concept through commissioning
Serve as Owner's Engineer, representing client interests and ensuring compliance with project specifications, standards, and regulations
Coordinate and oversee internal engineering teams across civil/structural, electrical, protection & controls, system studies, and generation disciplines
Oversee substation design, construction, testing, and commissioning activities
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, utilities, and regulatory agencies
Conduct site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to schedule and budget
Support development and management of project scope, schedules, and budgets in coordination with Project Management
Implement quality assurance and quality control measures for all project deliverables
Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks
Mentor, train, and supervise junior engineers and designers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
6+ years of multi-disciplinary substation design experience
Proven experience supporting or leading HV and EHV substation projects
Experience working on EPC or Owner's Engineer-style project delivery models
Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design software
Experience with grounding and lightning protection systems
Proficiency with MS Project, Primavera, or similar project scheduling tools
Experience supporting equipment FATs, testing, and commissioning
Preferred
Familiarity with power system analysis tools such as ETAP or SKM
Knowledge of SCADA systems and substation integration
Understanding of protective relaying and coordination
Knowledge of renewable energy interconnection standards
Data center power or mission-critical infrastructure projects
