The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is seeking a skilled Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician III to perform repair and maintenance on small engines, automotive, and heavy equipment. The role involves diagnosing, repairing, and managing inventory for various mechanical systems and supervising workers.

Responsibilities

Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop, as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment
Diagnose and repair various automotive, small engine, and/or heavy equipment systems
Manage on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities
Supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers, and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors

Required

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three (3) years of experience in the area of assignment
A sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F
Physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and to perform heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time with or without a reasonable accommodation

Preferred

Demonstrated experience of the methods, practices, tools and/or material used in the general maintenance and/or repair of vehicles or heavy equipment including inventory of parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities
Demonstrated experience in advanced vehicle routine maintenance and/or problem diagnosis
Demonstrated experience in the repair of vehicles and/or heavy equipment
Demonstrated experience in the operation and/or care of small engine types of grounds keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors or chainsaws
