Responsibilities

UPS Technician Level 3 or 4Mission Critical Services is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment
Daily travel with independent work structure
Emergency call availability unless on PTO or Off Call is available 24/7
Maintain/safeguard company issued equipment, tools, and equipment
Battery installation, replacement & maintenance
Perform necessary preventative maintenance tasks to equipment under the contract as scheduled
Customer contact and interface, good personal presentation
Communicate the availability status to the corporate office
Communicate the availability status to Team Lead or Management
Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records
The use of electronic and electrical test equipment, as necessary
Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors employed by MCS, as necessary
Maintain company or personal vehicle in a secure and operational condition; maintain insurance as required by the company
Ensure that the work is performed to MCS Standards
Complete all paperwork, including Field Service Reports and Expense Reports, and other job required reports promptly and efficiently
Provide technical assistance to customers & MCS Team technicians on request
Maintain Technical documentation for study and/or evaluation
Willing and able to attend product specific training as the company considers necessary
Cross train other (UPS Technicians) as needed. Other duties as required
Examine power electronic systems and their associated controls. Typical systems include but are not limited to UPS systems, battery systems associated with power back up systems, Static Transfer Switches, Power Distribution Units, and their associated controls. Inspections Checks are not limited to Initial, In-process, Visual Condition, and Final Inspections, Maintenance Operational Checks, and Failure Analysis, and repairs
Ensures that systems and components adhere to quality standards established by applicable codes, publications, checklist, and specifications
Reviews and checks system drawings and specifications for accuracy and reliability. Technician will determine maintenance requirements, inspection requirements, and compliance with technical resolved discrepancies between recorded and actual system components by research with owner/manufacturer or by physical inspections. Corrects and certifies changes entered for the record
Provides technical assistance and expertise regarding power electronic devices to owners and engineers. Technician must perform inspections, technical assistance, maintenance assistance, and instruction on site personnel, advises site personnel on proper maintenance practices, procedures, and techniques. Reviews and interprets existing technical documents applicable to inspections, modifications, and maintenance of power electronics. Resolves technical issues that were encountered. Prepares reports of findings and provides recommendations on system improvements and implementation of quality control programs
The physical demands are expressed by those that must be met by an employee to effectively perform the essential functions of the job, including lifting, and installing batteries. The company expects the employees to observe all safety standards
Maintains operational expertise with the following instrument: Digital multi-meter, Power analyzer, Infrared camera, Digital camera, Insulation test equipment, EMI/EMF meters, Battery test equipment (Alber/Medtronic’s), Oscilloscope
It requires 7x24x365 availability when on call. The job position may require overnight travel at company expense

Required

AA/BS degree in Electrical and/or Electronics from an accredited college or university, or equivalent field or military experience
At least five (5) years of experience with various UPS systems, batteries, test equipment and associated electrical devices such as switchgears, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATS's, and generators
Accuracy in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, blueprints, and schematic diagrams
Strong understanding of NEC, maintenance procedures, maintenance and supply procedures, and quality control procedures
Demonstrate the ability to assess complex electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance, parts, and labor requirements, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing and inspection methods when necessary
The use of laptop computers, various software packages and other electronic communication devices will be necessary
Strong written and oral communication skills
Future training and certification requirements; various manufacturer maintenance courses, power quality training courses, and certification
Proficient in Microsoft Office products
Maintain professional appearance & Positive attitude
Be available to attend monthly safety or company scheduled meetings
Lifts at least one hundred (100) pounds at one time and sixty (60) pounds for an extended period
Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance
Works at various heights up to sixty feet (60) and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders
Walks, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels pushes, pulls, and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis
Possess excellent vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English
Can use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools
Tell when something is wrong or is likely to occur. It does not involve solving the issue, only recognizing there is a problem
Apply general rules to specific problems to provide answers that are accurate
Combine elements of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a connection between unrelated events)
See details at a close distance (within a few feet of the observer)
Listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented by spoken words and sentences
