RBL 5 Laboratory Research Technician

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician for the Center for Vaccine Research. The role involves conducting independent laboratory work, analyzing data, and maintaining laboratory operations in a BSL2/BSL3 environment.

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments
Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports
Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs
Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations
Conducting independent methods and procedures for bench and animal research in the Biosafety Level (BSL) 2 and 3 environments
Conducting independent studies; analyzing, preparing, and presenting data; performing advanced virology, microbiology, and molecular biology techniques
Maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures
Independently initiating and troubleshooting research protocols
Supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques
Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
Assisting other research personnel in performing research protocols and operating laboratory equipment
Maintaining thorough documentation of laboratory results and ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies

Required

Bachelor's Degree
3 years of experience
Ability to read and comprehend the English language
Normal visual ability with no hearing impairments
Adequate manual dexterity to perform sensitive laboratory work in a BSL3/ABSL3 environment
Successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents and Toxins, as required by Federal regulation
Good communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a fully productive, cooperative team member
Strict adherence to BSL2/BSL3 procedures
Experience working with small laboratory animals, including ferrets and rodents
Ability to conduct independent studies
Ability to analyze, prepare, and present data
Experience performing advanced virology, microbiology, and molecular biology techniques
Experience maintaining tissue culture lines and generating primary cell cultures
Ability to independently initiate and troubleshoot research protocols
Experience supervising and training other professional research personnel in specialized techniques
Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment
Ability to assist other research personnel in performing research protocols and operating laboratory equipment
Ability to maintain thorough documentation of laboratory results and ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies
