Responsibilities
Assume shared responsibility for the management of surveillance, prevention, and control of infections hospital wide
Regularly collaborate and communicate with other departments to ensure that staff are educated on optimal infection prevention and control practices
Develop, implement, and maintain a reporting system for nosocomial infections and communicable diseases
Serve as a resource to hospital staff and leadership in infection control and prevention, assisting managers in developing, implementing, and updating infection control standards for their units
Maintain cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with hospital staff, leadership, co-workers, patients, visitors, and other customers
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Medical Lab, or in Nursing, or in Medical Technology, or related field
Attend a basic infection control training course after the first year of employment in this role
If a Registered Nurse, licensed or eligible for licensure in Virginia as a Registered Nurse or current multistate compact license
If a Medical Technologist, licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Virginia
Healthcare related experience
Preferred
Certified in infection control (CIC) preferred
Acute care infection prevention experience preferred
