Weekend Morning Anchor-Reporter

Capitol Broadcasting Company is seeking an experienced and dynamic Weekend Morning Anchor-Reporter for WRAL. The role involves anchoring weekend newscasts and reporting on various platforms, requiring strong skills in writing, shooting, and editing news content.

Public Relations

Responsibilities

Deliver news and information during live newscasts, special reports, and continuous coverage
Anchor from both the studio and the field with the ability to ad-lib and handle unscripted breaking news events
Write and present news clearly, engagingly, and with journalistic integrity
Produce, shoot, write, and edit stories for all WRAL platforms
Develop original content and enterprise storytelling, particularly with a focus on local relevance and accountability
Utilize graphics and other visual elements to enhance storytelling clarity and impact
Report live from breaking news scenes, special events, and locations across the community
Conduct compelling interviews and provide insightful context on developing stories
Work closely with producers, photographers, and the editorial team to shape newscasts and digital packages
Contribute ideas during editorial meetings and help shape news coverage
Build and maintain a strong rapport with the WRAL audience through social media, community involvement, and public appearances
Actively engage with viewers and respond to feedback professionally and courteously
Research topics thoroughly to ensure factual and contextually accurate reporting
Stay informed on current events, emerging issues, and industry best practices
Participate in ongoing training to sharpen on-air delivery and storytelling abilities

Required

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in broadcast journalism, including on-air reporting or anchoring
Exceptional verbal and written communication
Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to ethical journalism
Proficiency in news production tools and editing software
Skilled in shooting and editing video using industry-standard equipment
Demonstrated ability to handle breaking news and live situations under pressure
Experience using social media professionally to support storytelling and audience connection
Deep commitment to public service journalism and community engagement
High standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity
Strong sense of initiative and creativity
