Miller Johnson is seeking an experienced Trusts and Estate Planning Attorney to join our Probate and Estate Planning Practice Group. The role involves advising individuals and families on comprehensive estate planning strategies, drafting estate planning documents, and collaborating with attorneys across practice groups to provide integrated solutions.

Responsibilities

Advise individuals and families on comprehensive estate planning strategies

Draft and implement estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and related instruments

Counsel clients on strategies to: protect minor children through guardianship designations and trusts; preserve governmental benefits for elderly or disabled individuals; coordinate estate plans with life insurance and retirement assets; minimize, defer, or eliminate estate, gift, and income taxes; and accomplish charitable goals in a tax-efficient manner

Plan for succession of family businesses and shared family assets, including vacation properties

Assist with or independently handle probate, trust administration, and post-death administration

Communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively to clients

Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups to provide integrated solutions

Required

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

Licensed and in good standing (or ability to become licensed) in Michigan

Minimum of 3 years of substantive estate planning experience

Experience working directly with individual clients and fiduciaries

Strong drafting, analytical, and organizational skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-focused approach

Ability to manage multiple matters independently while maintaining high-quality work
