Responsibilities

Provides Construction and Field Engineering resources and expertise during planning and design to provide initial and continuous constructability input and support to the Design Development process
Participate in Basis of Estimate reviews and Functional reviews during the Planning phase of projects
Provides support to Construction Management by performing civil, mechanical, or electrical Field Engineering constructability responsibilities supporting construction projects
Engages Construction Management division discipline experts as needed to assure constructability thoroughness
Completes assigned tasks under minimal supervision and technical direction
Reviews and interprets drawings and specifications to determine if information is adequate for successful completion of construction
Performs constructability process per procedure during design preparation and execution
Coordinating with Engineering, maintains a log of projects and status of project design input
Coordinating with Engineering, maintains a register of significant constructability comments by project, including disposition of comments
Coordinates with Project Engineer to ensure all constructability comments are addressed
Participates and assists in coordinating site access and Craft support for constructability walk downs
Completes all design input within the project schedule
Works directly with the Project Engineer during Design Development
Coordinates with Construction in commenting on Design output documents and collecting a comprehensive list of Construction comments
Attend Project comment resolution meetings and scheduled reviews as appropriate

Required

Bachelor's degree with: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience. (Typical experience ranging from 10 to 15 years.)
OR Master's degree with: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience. (Typical experience ranging from 10 to 15 years.)
OR PhD with: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Applicants without a Bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of 15 years of completed education and/or relevant experience
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709

Preferred

Preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, a technical Engineering discipline or another related field plus 7 or more years of experience in construction or 15 years of progressive, relevant construction experience
A minimum of 7 years experience in relevant construction employment on DOE or large commercial or industrial construction projects is preferred
The experience must include positions and/or activities as a Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Field/Construction Engineer
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with construction supervision, craft and engineers in meeting program/project objectives
Must have effective oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and management
The candidate must have excellent organizational skills
Knowledge of multi-discipline construction operations and processes is required
Knowledge of organized Construction Labor and Building Trades is desired
Must have knowledge with the initiation and processing of Construction Work planning
