Responsibilities
Conduct site visits, testing, and inspection services at construction job sites
Conduct laboratory testing on soil samples, such as, physical index properties, permeability and moisture-density relationship
Assist geotechnical engineers to complete site investigation activities such as soil borings and/or test pit excavations, field permeability/percolation tests, and other supporting tasks as deemed necessary to maintain the geotechnical department operation
Pickup and drop-off samples to laboratories
Reviewing and referencing project documents including site-civil, structural, architectural plans, geotechnical reports, and topographic surveys
Conduct structural steel and steel reinforcement inspections
Perform footing subgrade inspections to review soils composition and bearing capacity and/or determine depth of overexcavation for unsuitable subgrade soils; Earthwork oversight (monitoring overexcavation of unsuitable materials and compaction testing of structural fill material)
Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors and project manager
Maintain the instruments in calibrated condition, collecting and reporting data to the manager, managing lab supply/inventory, and assisting in preparation of reports/presentations
Ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or construction related field preferred
0-4 years' experience in construction inspection field or laboratory testing
Valid driver's license
Ability to maintain and operate personal and/or company vehicle
Must have hands-on experience with metric and English tools
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to understand general computer commands and learn supporting software for entering field data, laboratory data, timesheets, etc
Independent and critical thinking abilities
Self-starter who can work independently and with team members
Preferred
American Concrete Institute (ACI) concrete field-testing technician certificate, accredited construction inspection/materials testing certificates, OSHA 40, OSHA 10, and/or American Portable Nuclear Gauge Association (APNGA) gauge training preferred
