Project Manager (Administrative Analyst/Specialist – Exempt III)

San Diego State University is seeking an experienced and collaborative Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of construction, renovation, and maintenance projects within Facilities Services. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in alignment with university policies and capital goals.

Responsibilities

Manage construction and renovation projects from planning to closeout, ensuring alignment with CSU, SUAM, and SDSU standards
Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal trades to maintain quality, schedule, safety, and budget compliance
Maintain project documentation, resolve issues, and review RFIs, submittals, and change orders
Serve as primary liaison for stakeholders, conduct site visits, and proactively mitigate risks and disruptions
Lead project teams and collaborate with campus clients, trades, and stakeholders to define scope, set objectives, and drive execution
Promote a team culture of accountability, inclusion, and professionalism through clear communication and proactive decision-making
Provide direction through project phases including design-build, workshops, and planning sessions
Monitor performance using KPIs and promote SDSU Facilities as a proactive service unit
Track budgets, analyze financial status, and ensure project costs align with approved limits
Collaborate on bid packages, RFPs, and contract evaluations; manage JOC documentation and contractor payments
Provide budget updates and recommendations to leadership; ensure contract compliance
Coordinate campus events and construction activity to minimize disruption
Serve as liaison to staff, faculty, and committees on project updates and issues
Support Emergency Planning and other initiatives to enhance campus safety and operations

Required

General knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field
Foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods
Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs
Knowledge of programming, site planning, utility design, architectural design, interior design, space planning, project management, building codes and regulations governing Public Works construction
Highly effective interpersonal skills
Familiarity with scheduling software, construction project management software, Excel spreadsheets and word processing software
Proficient in working within a union-based environment
Extensive background in code compliance – Cal OSHA, NFPA 70/ 70E (NEC), NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm), NFPA 73 (Fire / Electrical Hazards)
Work may include driving vehicles and other automotive equipment, operating various machines (computer and related complex software, iPad or other handheld devices, calculator, etc.), and lifting and transporting equipment, material and supplies up to 50 pounds (in excess of 50 pounds with assistance)
Valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire

Preferred

Possession of a professional license and have experience managing projects in a Higher Education environment
CSU contracting methods for maintenance and construction skills
Understanding of CSU, SUAM, and University-specific policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
