Responsibilities

Conduct on-site safety and risk assessments for prospective and existing policyholders, identifying hazards, exposures, and control opportunities
Perform workplace walkthroughs and field inspections, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Develop, implement, and monitor customized safety and loss prevention plans for assigned accounts
Provide direct, consultative support to policyholders through scheduled site visits and follow-up engagements to improve workplace safety
Assist in the delivery of safety seminars and training programs for policyholders, including OSHA 10- and 30-Hour courses
Conduct safety awareness training for policyholders
Promote best practices in occupational safety and health tailored to policyholder operations
Prepare and deliver timely, professional reports to Underwriting that assess safety conditions, risk quality, and loss prevention opportunities in accordance with company standards
Provide recommendations to assist underwriting coverage, pricing, and service strategy decisions
Conduct accident and incident investigations at the request of the Claims Department to determine root cause and identify potential subrogation opportunities
Maintain and strengthen positive relationships with policyholders, agents, and internal stakeholders
Actively participate in Hawaiʻi’s safety and risk management community
Represent HEMIC at professional meetings, industry events, and corporate functions, including organizations such as ASSE and the HIOSH Advisory Board
Manage field schedules, documentation, and reporting to meet productivity and service expectations
Adapt to changing priorities, regulatory requirements, and field conditions
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Required

Working knowledge of OSHA standards
OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Trainer certification in General Industry and Construction
7+ years of professional safety experience
Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and clean driving record
Ability to meet HEMIC insurance requirements for vehicle use
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong relationship-building abilities
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and ability to handle challenging situations effectively

Preferred

Associate degree in Occupational Safety or related, or equivalent experience
Professional safety certifications such as OHST, CHST, or STS
Practical experience in high-risk sectors
Experience working with diverse industries in a field-based consulting or insurance environment
