Vehicle Technician II (Mechanic)
Omnitrans is a provider of public mass transit for the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California, seeking a skilled Vehicle Technician II to join their team. The role involves performing diagnostic repair and maintenance work on motor coaches, automobiles, and associated equipment, ensuring reliability and safety of transit vehicles.

Responsibilities
Performs road tests of vehicles to ensure reliability
Performs major mechanical repairs including engine, differential and transmission replacement
Performs brake relines, including both heavy duty drum and disk air brake systems
Removes, repairs, replaces and adjusts components of bus and/or automotive systems, including, but not limited to, engine, electrical, suspension, fuel, pneumatic, and hydraulic, and HVAC systems
Pressure checks cooling system; replaces hoses, belts, fans and thermostats as needed; repairs or replaces radiators, recovery systems and water pumps
Provides emergency road service to disabled vehicles
Performs checks and repairs on HVAC systems including the use refrigerant recycling machines
Completes written documentation of completed repairs and/or work completed
Troubleshoots and diagnoses and repairs equipment failures
Performs preventative maintenance inspections of transit coaches, light trucks and other vehicles/equipment
Uses test equipment such as a test meter/DVOM; is proficient in computer diagnostics
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Four (4) or more years of experience in vehicle maintenance and/or formalized training in the maintenance of light and heavy vehicles
Must have a Class B permit and endorsements prior to first day of work
Must be able to obtain a Class B license by the end of probationary period
Techniques and methods of overhauling and repairing light and heavy vehicles and equipment
Materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of light and heavy equipment
Safe working practices relating to all assigned job duties
Diagnose malfunctions and determine appropriate course of action
Operate computer diagnostic equipment
Operate mechanical and electronic testing equipment
Interpret diagrams and follow written and oral instructions
Basic computer knowledge
Receive, transmit and record information clearly, accurately and legibly
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Perform basic arithmetical calculations
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Read and understand policies, procedures and Agency regulations
Obtain and maintain a valid Class B California Motor Vehicle Operator's License with passenger endorsements
Must provide all necessary tools up to 3/4" drive
Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations
Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Act (Cal-OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear including but not limited to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
