Head Start Parent Involvement Specialist
NEOGOV is seeking a Head Start Parent Involvement Specialist to oversee the parent involvement component of the Head Start/State Preschool program. Responsibilities
Plans and schedules training sessions, Parent Policy Committee meetings, Parent Education meetings and other parent involvement-related events throughout the school year; plans and provides two-day intensive training for incoming Parent Policy Committee members; coordinates, facilitates and secures speakers and locations for parent education meetings, as well as for other events
Recruits and trains parent volunteers to serve on the Parent Committee, Policy Committee and Policy Council; trains parents to review and make recommendations for the implementation of federal and state rules and regulations applicable to areas of assigned responsibilities; trains and prepares Policy Committee parents to assist with the program's annual self-assessment; trains and prepares parents for their role on various sub-committees such as Personnel, Finance, Program and Health
Develops and distributes flyers and pertinent information for all parent involvement-related events; coordinates childcare arrangements for meetings and training sessions
Transcribes and distributes minutes from Policy Committee meetings to teachers, parents, staff and the Los Angeles County Office of Education
Serves as a liaison between parents, administration, teaching staff and Los Angeles County Office of Education; serves as a parent advocate and assists parents with their concerns employing conflict resolution and/or mediation skills; monitors monthly Parent Committee site meetings to ensure parents are given the opportunity to participate fully in the program
Writes and/or revises policies and procedures; coordinates and compiles data necessary for surveys and reports
Trains teaching staff on their role in parent involvement in order to maximize the parents' potential in the classroom
Participates in various community-based programs and networking groups
Prepares and submits time reports for payment of childcare attendants
Coordinates and facilitates recognition breakfast/meeting for volunteer Parent Policy Committee
Provides support at conferences (local and out-of-state), making sure parents have proper orientation and guidance in order to maximize experience and learning opportunity as well as serving as custodian of funds
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
Three years of paid or volunteer experience working with a community service organization to develop and carry out involvement and community building activities, preferably in a leadership role
A valid California driver's license
Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance
Bilingual in Spanish to English
