Sr GIS Analyst

Mecklenburg County is seeking a Sr GIS Analyst to perform advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) work in capturing, maintaining, and analyzing geospatial data. The role involves project management, GIS/IT system integration, and providing technical leadership to other GIS application developers.

Responsibilities

Provide administration of enterprise GIS databases and/or GIS projects; prepare and implement plans, designs and schedules; coordinate resources and tasks to ensure objectives and timelines are met
Perform research and analysis of geospatial database/environment in support of project initiatives and asset management; prepare and maintain documentation of business processes and system
Create, update and maintain applications, scripts, geospatial data, database schema and/or other system components; support the enhancement and integration of applications, business processes and systems
Perform advanced troubleshooting of GIS and system technology issues; research processes and practices determining best solutions; implement and maintain technology solutions
Respond to requests from internal and external customers; provide consultation and subject matter expertise in support of projects and solutions; research and develop mapping products and reports
Assist in the evaluation, selection and implementation of software solutions; perform workflow analysis and define business requirements; research, implement and test solutions
Produce digital data for County personnel, contractors, private entities, and the public utilizing a variety of formats
Perform quality control for GIS, including converting files, analyzing data, and reviewing processes
Develop, implement, and modify GIS software applications
Provide digital support for software datasets and essential base mapping data in everyday and emergency situations

Required

Minimum of four years of experience in geospatial technologies, geography, Information Technology, land records, land development, planning, cartography, engineering, surveying or related field
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geography, Planning or related field
May require a North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
Knowledge of applicable computer hardware, operating systems, and software
Knowledge of map layouts, templates, cartographic elements, mobile GIS/GPS, and metadata
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems
Knowledge of applicable programming languages
Knowledge of systems analysis principles
Knowledge of geography principles
Knowledge of relational database concepts
Knowledge of cartography principles
Skills in operating computers and related software applications
Skills in interpreting maps
Skills in writing computer programs
Skills in conducting research
Skills in performing statistical and quantitative spatial analysis
Skills in transferring information from plans to digital formats for mapping
Skills in creating maps
Ability to achieve goals and work tenaciously to overcome obstacles
Ability for continuous improvement and identifying improvement opportunities
Ability to demonstrate engagement readiness and commitment to work
Ability to monitor information and set up ongoing procedures
Ability to plan and organize work efficiently
Technical/professional knowledge and skills in position-related areas
Advanced computer skills in various applications including Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred

Strong GIS/IT System Integration and programming skills
Master's degree in related field
GISP & PMP Certification
