Automotive Lab Technician

Columbus State Community College is seeking an Automotive Lab Technician to perform technical duties in the automotive technology field. The role includes maintaining tools and equipment, performing diagnostic services and minor repairs, and supporting the automotive laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

Distributes tools and equipment to students for classroom and laboratory use, documents disbursements, and collects and stores tools following use. Cleans tools, equipment, and floor
Cleans and maintains the lab area. Opens and closes the Lab at shift end and ensures equipment is stored in the proper location to secure the Automotive Lab
Ensures tools, equipment, and training aids are functional, operational, and performs needed diagnostic services and minor repairs. Replaces tools and equipment when necessary
Prepares new training aids and donated vehicles for laboratory use. Perform periodic and safety maintenance on automotive lab equipment. Utilize college approved contractors if repairs are necessary
Performs vehicle preventive maintenance. Charges batteries, maintains fuel levels, monitors tire pressure, and performs other maintenance of a routine nature. Updates automotive computerized equipment
Maintains and updates inventory of tools, special service kits, equipment, stock items, and vehicles. Monitors disbursements, orders needed items, and obtains bid offers on new equipment. Utilizes college approved contractors to ensure proper handling and disposal of waste oil and other hazardous materials
Use college approved methods of handling recycling materials. Keeps accurate records. Completes and maintains required documentation, including inventory reports, equipment maintenance records, work orders, and requisitions
Assists instructors. Obtains and returns training materials, sets up vehicles and other training aids, and arranges chairs, tables, and equipment. Assist with breaking down labs and putting away tools and training aids when class is over, if necessary
Answers routine questions, gives automotive lab tours, provides general information, and performs other duties to maintain good public and student relations
Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community

Required

High School Degree or GED with technical or vocational automotive training
1 to 3 years progressively responsible experience servicing and repairing vehicles or working in a tool room or parts department
State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). Forklift Operator Certification
An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate
