TEMPORARY/CONTRACT - Business Tax & Lien Services Specialist I - Finance Dept

This entry-level position provides frontline customer service and clerical support for both Business Tax and Lien Services functions, assisting with processing business tax receipts and ensuring compliance with City ordinances and Florida Statutes.

Responsibilities

Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations
Evaluate, recommend, and establish policies and procedures to continuously improve operations, decrease turn-around times, and streamline processes to provide quality customer service
Provide customer service related to business tax receipts and municipal liens, including general inquiries, payment information, and application status
Assist with processing new, renewal, and transferred business tax receipt applications; verify completeness of submitted documentation
Collect and process payments for business taxes and lien payoffs; issue receipts and ensure accurate data entry
Assist with basic lien research, account updates, and payoff information as directed
Schedule and prepare routine documentation for Special Magistrate hearings, including modifications and vacates
Maintain electronic and paper records in accordance with records retention requirements
Access, input, and retrieve data from applicable systems including Munis and other departmental software
Support departmental reporting and assist with reconciliation of daily transactions
Other duties as may be assigned

Required

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required
One (1) year of experience in clerical/customer service or related field required
Knowledge of bookkeeping principles and procedures
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to apply such knowledge to work problems
Ability to make mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
Ability to focus on the positive in every situation
Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization
Ability to stay centered when challenged
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to follow through with assigned tasks
