SHIP PROPELLER FINISHER HELPER

NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD is seeking a Ship Propeller Finisher Helper to work in the Machine Shop Section of the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center. The role involves assisting in the finishing and assembly of naval propellers, ensuring safety regulations are followed and maintaining a clean work area.

Responsibilities

You will work directly with Propeller Mechanic to hand finish Propellers using Leica and Laser Tracker analysis
You will assembly work, inspect and measure operations on all types of new Naval Propellers
You will assist riggers in the handling and assembly work on Propellers
You will perform layout operations on all Class Naval Propellers using Pitchometer, Laser Tracker and Written Instructions under the direction of Propeller Finisher Mechanic or Supervisor
You will observe all safety rules and regulations and keep area clean and free from debris

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
Experience operating simple machines, using the journeyman's standard tools, performing requiring semi-skilled knowledge regarding the assigned area of work operations
Experience assembling work using Leica and Laser Trackers, inspecting and measuring operations on all types of new Naval Propellers
Experience applying knowledge of the common and most typical operations of the trade, assisting the Propeller Finisher Mechanic in work operations
Experience assisting rigging operations and being part of a Weight Handling Team in the handling, movement and flipping of Nala Propellers
Experience working in dusty, noisy atmosphere performing under many adverse conditions as the job dictates
