Responsibilities

Performing on-site inspections of construction issues that arise during submarine/carrier construction in support of resolving Engineering Reports
Problem solving to resolve shop fabrication / deck plate installation problems with piping systems, structural assemblies, and temporary systems
Using technical writing skills to develop and review technical work instructions which guide installation/fabrication/maintenance of complex mechanical and structural assemblies
Review, interpret and maintain construction drawings for propulsion plant construction
Collaborating with peer engineers, construction management and craftsmen on a daily basis
Research and development of process improvement projects to reduce the build span of submarines and carriers

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Preferred

An understanding of reactor plant and/or non-nuclear steam plant fluid systems and structural components
Reactor plant and/or steam plant cleanliness
System test processes in a construction environment
Experience with ship construction processes

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Prior experience working in industrial settings and/or waterfront experience
