Senior Engineer - System Protection and Control
Telex LLC is seeking a Senior Engineer to provide expert system protection and control engineering services. The role involves managing assignments in a safe and cost-effective manner while demonstrating technical expertise and providing direction to staff and contractors.

Responsibilities
Develop/finalize reports and work plans, recommend action, and consider short/long-range objectives and economic and budget considerations
Develop and coordinate departmental project work plans and manage through completion, redirecting when necessary
Lead development of work plans and monitor actual progress of applicable portions, taking any corrective action required
Function as a technical representative in customer, vendor, and contractor meetings
Provide work direction to other staff/contractors on projects as assigned
Manage multiple assignments while training, developing, and mentoring less experienced engineers and other staff
Oversee and/or complete preparation of estimates (cost, work order, schedules)
Analyze data and make recommendations and/or decisions
Maintain and approve technical records (e.g. drawings, files, databases)
Provide engineering assistance for customers and internal staff
Create corporate standards and specifications related to respective expertise
Demonstrate strong technical expertise and awareness of job-related field and continue to remain current in the industry
Perform analysis of system disturbances to determine proper operation of the protection scheme and assist in investigation of root cause
Develop and/or apply new technologies to generation, transmission, and distribution facilities to achieve an optimum level of protection
Provide protective relay scheme insight to help establish the arrangement and location of substation facilities
Provide direction and technical assistance with digital computer programs and perform analysis as needed including power quality, fault, and system coordination studies, loss evaluations, relay software, relay event analysis, protection asset databases, and arc flash
Develop and direct detailed drawings for relaying single lines, secondary protective relay schemes and schematics, low voltage equipment power, and control system connections for generation, transmission, and distribution protection
Design and manage the installation of generation, transmission, distribution and industrial facility replacements and upgrades
Develop cabling requirements for relay cabinets, equipment, and relay panels
Develop building layout drawings for control houses and battery buildings
Develop bidding documents, evaluate and establish lowest bids for industrial, distribution, and transmission substations
Develop protective relay settings as required for new facility (generation, transmission, distribution and industrial) equipment protection and modify existing facility protective relay settings to maintain optimum system protection
Perform SME tasks on assigned NERC and/or CIP Compliance standards
Prepare construction, equipment, material specifications, and work scope
Provide project management for protection and control projects in engineering and construction and/or generation production
Maintain and coordinate contracts with equipment suppliers and monitor progress, expediting as required to meet schedules
Coordinate and oversee substation and industrial control system field testing and modification, phasing tests, and other commissioning and check-out activities for all generation, transmission, distribution and industrial protection schemes, with contractors and other Telex departments, at the customer substation and industrial sites
Develop protection system switching procedures
Lead coordination of contractors or staff on project related work, certification of completed work, and recommendation of final acceptance of the project
Monitor the project during construction start-up and recommend modifications necessary to support project success
Perform project management duties for small and larger projects simultaneously and assist other engineers with their projects
Perform all work in a safe and timely manner
Qualification
Required
Expert system protection and control engineering services and support
Ability to manage assignments in a safe, regulatory compliant, timely, and cost-effective manner
Demonstrated robust technical expertise
Ability to work independently while providing work direction to staff/contractors
Experience in short-circuit and coordination studies
Experience in protective relay settings
Experience in protection and control system design including one-line diagrams/ac & dc schematics/panel layouts/wiring diagrams
Experience in power system modeling on modeling platforms such as ASPEN OneLiner
Experience in power system disturbance analysis for generation/transmission/distribution/industrial facilities
Ability to develop/finalize reports and work plans
