Senior Traffic Mobility Engineer

Responsibilities

Scoping and coordination of limited access right-of-way protection activities. This includes scoping work on protective buying projects, coordination and review of permits, and other associated tasks
Complex traffic analysis including basic capacity analysis, speed data analysis, and microsimulation, in order to recommend effective solutions to identified needs on the state network
Scoping, coordination, and technical review of complex traffic mobility projects, including freeway and interchange projects, and arterial and intersection projects
Collaboration with other departments of the agency on topics including design, standards and policy, and others
Provide technical support and serve as a subject matter expert for statewide traffic engineering team
Involvement with research program to drive development of research-based solutions to traffic engineering needs

Required

Registered Professional Engineers license in Indiana required
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (civil engineering is preferred but not required) from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited school
Experience in engineering (civil engineering is preferred), transportation research or related area
Be willing to travel with an appropriate accommodation
Broad knowledge of and ability to apply civil engineering theories, principles, methods, and procedures to the engineering specialty
Broad knowledge of planning and design, of highway transportation project features in accordance with engineering design standards, principles, and methods
Broad knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing incumbents filed of specialization
Broad knowledge of and ability to apply computer aided design and drafting functions to field of specialization
Ability to use initiative and creativity when making technical recommendations and decisions
Ability to review complex design plans and reports relating to the functional area of specialization
Working knowledge of State and National standards and manuals that pertain to traffic engineering, not limited to Indiana Design Manual (IDM), Indiana Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (IMUTCD), Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) and others
Knowledge of department systems not limited to Scheduling Project Management System (SPMS), ArcGIS, and others

Preferred

Civil engineering is preferred for both the degree and experience
