The University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking for a Researcher I to contribute to research efforts in the Engin Lab focused on understanding the mechanisms of type 1 diabetes. The successful candidate will conduct independent research in molecular biology and assist with lab experiments, while also participating in training and supervising staff.

Responsibilities

Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities and assists with publications
Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
Assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
Assists with the development of research methodologies and procedures
Collects and analyzes basic research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures
Trains individuals and groups on equipment operations, research protocols, and techniques within a specialized laboratory or research area

Required

At least 3 years of full-time laboratory experience in an academic environment post bachelor's
Experience with mammalian cell culture
Excellent record keeping and organizational skills

Preferred

Experience working with mouse colonies, genotyping by PCR, administration of drugs
Experience with siRNA, shRNA, gene knockout or over expression in mammalian culture
Familiarity with molecular biology techniques such as PCR, western blot, DNA and RNA isolation
Imaging (confocal)
Immunofluorescence, immunostaining
Flow cytometry
